BUDGET PRESENTATION
TUESDAY, JANUARY 11, 2005
7:00 P.M., HANOVER HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY
MINUTES
Present: Board members Asmus, Bruce, Carter, Chamberlin, Cheney, Goodman, Gray, Pilchman, Sachsse, Segal, Vitt; Administrators Gersen, Aubin, Weissmann, Finer, Gillespie; and approximately 22 members of the public.
1. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Cheney called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.
2. CHAIR'S REPORT:
a. Calendar - Chair Cheney announced that the next board meeting will be Tuesday, January 18, 7:00 p.m. in the Marion Cross School Library. This meeting will continue the discussion of the budget; it will not be covered live but will be run on CATV. The regular Board meeting on January 25 will include a public hearing and budget adoption.
b. District Filing and Annual Meeting - Chair Cheney announced the following filing information:
· The Dresden School District has filing dates from Wednesday, January 12 through 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 1.
· Filing for School District Officers can be done with either the School District Clerk, Deborah Carter, or at the SAU office, 45 Lyme Road, Room 207, Hanover.
· Positions open are: moderator - one year; clerk - one year; treasurer - one year; an auditor - three years.
The annual Dresden School District meeting will be held on Saturday, February 26, 1:00 p.m. in the Hanover High School Gymnasium, for Deliberative Session and Tuesday, March 1, 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Richmond School Gymnasium for all day voting for Dresden officers and Warrant articles.
c.Other Matters - Chair Cheney asked for public concerns. Representatives from the Hanover High School varsity volleyball team spoke in support of establishing a JV team; Hanover parent Alex Mamorian spoke in support of a proposal he submitted.
3. BUSINESS REQUIRING DISCUSSION:
a.) Presentation of 2005-06 Administrative Budget Proposal
Assistant Superintendent for Business Aubin presented a proposed 2005-06 budget with an overall 7.53% increase. Among the items discussed were: increasing the number of tuition students and the potential added costs and bus transportation associated with such a decision; ; enrollment projections; per pupil costs; staffing; tax rate impact; health insurance costs; fund raising/revenue sources; new school moving costs; and nurse requirements. Board discussion, public input, and a question and answer period followed.
b.) School District Warrant
Superintendent Gersen provided the Board with a copy of the first page of a set of four (4) pages he received requesting that the name of Hanover High School be changed to Dresden High School. They have asked that this petition be an article on the Dresden School District Warrant.
The Warrant will be discussed at a future meeting.
