August 3, 2023
Dear RMS Families:
Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year at Richmond Middle School! We hope that you have had a restful summer full of time relaxing with friends and family, recharging from the past year, and preparing for a return to a school year less soggy and weather interrupted than the past summer. Our beloved building at RMS is slowly returning to readiness after hosting a summer-long Hanover Parks and Rec camp and the Prouty, as we complete the cleaning, painting, and polishing necessary to welcome everyone back at the end of the month.
Your student should receive a copy of their schedule via the US mail (sometimes we like to go old school) during the week of August 14. The mailing will also include a list of needed supplies for the start of school (also available below). If your student does not receive this envelope, please contact us so that we can make sure PowerSchool has the correct address.
We know that coordinating the many aspects of family life with a middle schooler can be a scheduling challenge to say the least. We are attempting to plan as fully as possible for the upcoming year, and have included a copy of our updated school calendar available via this link.
Dates to remember:
- On Tuesday, August 29, from 3:00-4:30 p.m., we invite students new to the district (students who were not at either the Ray School or Marion Cross School last year) for an orientation hosted by our school counselors, John LaCrosse and Elizabeth Powers.
- That same day, Tuesday, August 29th 4:30-6:00 we will open school for students new to RMS who have previously attended either MCS or the Ray School.
- Wednesday, August 30, First Day of School for Students.
- Thursday, August 31, 5-7, Welcome back picnic sponsored by the PTO. Meet other families on the RMS field for fun and food at this informal get together.
- Thursday, September 7th, RMS will hold an “Open School” event from 5-7. Parents and students will be welcome to walk through the school, meet teachers (and other parents), and ask questions in an old-fashioned “face to face” way.
Other start of year information:
We know that this process can seem opaque and confusing. We encourage you to reach out to our teachers, counselors, staff, and administrators with any and all questions. We are all committed to assisting all students (and families) on their path to success and growth during their time in the RMS community. We value and appreciate the input, conversation, and collaboration as we all work to make RMS the very best school it can be. To that end we would encourage you to visit our web page often as we aim to provide dynamic content and resources as well as highlights of activities and events through our calendars, Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/rmsgeese/), updates, Friday focus, and other web resources.
As always, we welcome any and all questions, concerns, and other feedback. For the rest of the summer, please be safe, stay well, and take care of each other.
Tim & Anissa
