Dear Families and Staff,
We wanted to provide you with an update regarding COVID-19 in our schools. Since moving to masks welcome, we have been monitoring case levels closely as you know. Over the past nine days, we have experienced an increase in cases at some of our schools: Marion Cross School was notified of 14 cases with some potential classroom clusters, the Ray School 18 cases last week with 10 additional cases this week with some potential classroom clusters, the Richmond Middle School 16 cases and Hanover High School experienced 25 cases last week, with an additional 31 cases since the weekend. Given the increasing number of cases, we recommend wearing masks at our schools. We cannot mandate masks at this time based on our state guidelines, but strongly recommend their use. Fortunately, we are not seeing serious illness. However, we are seeing increasing numbers of absences which is having a detrimental impact on our schools in terms of student and staff illness. In our high school alone, we estimate over 300+ missed school days in the last two weeks.
We urge everyone to monitor closely for symptoms and to inform our nurses if you are experiencing any symptoms or have tested positive for COVID-19. We continue to follow safety protocols and welcome mask wearing. Additionally, we have a very low threshold for student and staff illness, and we continue to require that people with signs of illness remain home and conduct a COVID antigen test.
Please remember if you or your child are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever of 100.4 or higher, cough, shortness or breath, or difficulty breathing, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, or new loss of taste and smell, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, please stay home and away from others and get tested. We will also continue to follow our protocols when individuals test positive for COVID-19. If you test positive for COVID-19, please contact your school nurse for instructions regarding what you will need to do. Thank you again for all you are doing to keep students and staff healthy and safe in SAU 70.
Sincerely,
Jay Badams
Superintendent
